A
land of volcanoes, the Mountains of Ardèche rise to
the peak of Mount Mézenc and Gerbier de Jonc, the source
of the North-flowing river Loire. In spring the views over
this powerful landscape, dotted with thatched or stone-roofed
houses are simply magnificent. Further along the range, Lake
Issarlès, a translucent jewel nestling in the woodlands,
fills a huge volcanic crater formed thousands of years ago.
The feeder streams are an anglers' paradise.
In summer, this is a countryside for hikers, mountain bikers
and horse trekkers.
In autumn, a legendary spot for mushroom pickers. If you
take the time the Mountains reveal all their hidden treasures,
little by little.
